What do I need to use iStake for Blackberry?
iStake for Blackberry should work on any Blackberry running OS version 4.3.0 or later (including the Blackberry Curve, Storm, Bold). If you bought your Blackberry in the last 2 years, it should work great. If you aren't sure what OS you are running, please visit the following URL on your Blackberry: http://www.avikey.com/check/ -- and our system will determine whether or not your Blackberry is compatible.
Also, if you don't already have one, you will also need a member login to LDS.org (You can get one here).
|
Do I have to plug my Blackberry into my computer to make it work?
The installation of the app, and all of the data updates are done "Over The Air", so there's no reason to plug the Blackberry into your computer. As long as your Blackberry has internet capability, you're good to go.
|
How does iStake for Blackberry get my ward and stake directory information?
iStake for Blackberry retrieves your ward and stake directories from the LDS.org web-site using your LDS.org username and password. It will also retrieve your complete ward and stake leadership directories and calendar information. There's no need for you to enter anything, and since everything is done over the internet, your Blackberry does not need to be plugged into your computer. You can also refresh or update the directory as often as you like, or schedule automatic updates.
|
Why does iStake for Blackberry need to know my area code?
Your ward and stake directories are entered into the church MLS system by your clerks and uploaded to LDS church headquarters. Some clerks only enter 7-digit phone numbers, and this can confuse your phone if your cell phone number is in a different area code.
|
How long does it take to load my data?
It depends on three things.... 1) How fast the church web-site is responding (it's very slow on sundays). 2) How old your Blackberry is and 3) Whether you are doing the data update over the Blackbery data network or over WiFi. (WiFi is much faster.
A modern Blackberry doing a full data update over WiFi on a weekday should take under 5 minutes. However, we've seen cases where older Blackberries doing a data update on a Sunday over the Blackberry data network can take upwards of 30 minutes. We're looking for creative ways to improve this. Also, future versions of the Blackberry OS are promising much faster data.
|
Can I copy people to my contacts?
Yes. There are two ways to do this.
One at a time: Open the individual member screen and touch the "Copy to Contacts" button to move that person into your iPhone contact list. You can also call or email them directly from that screen.
Synchronize an entire ward (or wards): You can synchronize the contact information for all members of a ward by opening that ward in iStake and checking the box labeled "Contact Synchronization". This will automatically copy all members of that ward to your Blackberry contacts and keep the list current as the data in the ward changes.
|
Can I copy calendar events to my Blackberry calendar?
Yes. Open the calendar event you'd like to copy, and touch the "Copy to Calendar" button at the bottom of the screen.
|
Why is my leadership directory out of date?
iStake for Blackberry downloads your leadership information from the LDS.org website. The leadership directory for your ward and stake is maintained by your ward and stake webmasters (usually these are your ward and stake clerks). In some cases, it may not be updated regularly. Ask your bishopric who is responsible for keeping this information up to date on your ward and stake web sites, and re-update your directory when it has been corrected.
IMPORTANT: Most members of the church (even ward clerks) do not understand that the leadership information on the church web-site is not sycnhronized with the MLS. Each system must be maintained separately. If your leadership directory is out of date, please make sure your ward clerk understands that he must update the changes in both systems.
|
Why is some of the information about my ward and stake members incorrect?
The information on each member of your ward and stake is maintained by your ward and stake membership clerk through the church MLS system. Your ward and stake clerks have the ability to update and modify this information via the computer in the clerk's office of your ward and stake buildings. If you believe any of the information in your directory is incorrect, let them know, then re-update your directory when it has been corrected.
|
Is my username and password secure? What about my data?
The Church is very concerned about the security of membership data, and these concerns played a key role in our thinking process when we put iStake for Blackberry together. All of the data exchanged between your device and LDS.org is done over encrypted SSL connections and we don't store or view any of your information our servers
(or anyone else's servers, for that matter).
|
How long is my license good for?
Your license entitles you to use the current version of iStake indefinitely. (You can even move your license to a new Blackberry if you should ever upgrade your device). However, as new (major) versions are released, there may be a small upgrade fee to help cover the cost of developing new features. Upgrades, however, are strictly optional.
|
I have the iPhone version. Can I get the Blackberry version for free (or vice versa)?
Developing the application for each mobile platform is actually a "start from scratch" effort. Not only do we not have a way to verify that you've purchased the iPhone version, but we have real cost and effort associated with each system we support. We ask that you buy a separate license for each mobile platform.
|
I lost / replaced my Blackberry. How do I re-download iStake?
You can download again by pointing the browser on your Blackberry to avikey.com/m This will re-download the latest version of the app to your device. Note: As long as your LDS.org username was entered correctly when you purchased the software, your license will automatically transfer over.
|
I'm still having trouble. How do I get support?
Please email bbsupport@avikey.com. We respond to most emails within 24 hours.
